Drug Store VS Glymed

As a skin care professional, it is important to me to use the BEST for my clients, meaning using and selling professional-medical grade skin care products that will provide visible, clearer, better results, and truly support healthy skin. Because THESE are the products that will truly bring changes to your skin and life.

Skin care products can be divided into two categories: pharmaceutical grade (AKA Medical grade) and cosmeceutical grade (AKA Drug Store or Over The Counter).

Cosmeceutical grade product lines, such as LaRoche, Clinique, Clarins, N*7, etc., contain ingredients that can be bought over-the-counter at department or drug stores. These product ingredients need to be safe for the public, because when using these products, there is no training or education involved before use. Therefore, legally, Drug Store products cannot put enough active ingredients in their products, to actually make a difference in your skin. Also, Cosmeceutical grade products are only regulated by the FDA to use ingredients that are 70% pure which means these products are typically full of synthetic ingredients and fillers making their effectiveness minimal, and their capability to provide results much lower.

Pharmaceutical grade products are regulated by the FDA to contain ingredients that are 99% pure!!! These ingredients are going to have a powerful effect on the skin, because of the potency of the ingredients. Pharmaceutical grade products can ONLY be purchased from skin care professionals, who can teach clients how to use them properly so they do not risk damaging their skin. These products are no joke, and the instructions on how to use them properly cannot be taken lightly.

Another big difference between over the counter skin care and pharmaceutical grade skin care is not only active ingredients and their amounts, but the level of penetration of products into the skin. OTC (over the counter) products cannot penetrate past the Epidermis, which is the dead layer on the surface of the skin. So if these ingredients cant get into your dermis, what's even the point???

Pharmaceutical grade skin care products have the ability to penetrate the epidermis, the top dead layers of skin, into the dermis (the deeper layers of the skin) and physically change the skin. The dermis is where all the important stuff are, such as collagen, elastin, Fibroblast cells. Since the loss of collagen and elastin in the dermis is what ages us, we need to use pharmaceutical grade products that can penetrate to that level!!!! If not all we are doing is wasting time AND money! And for what?? To momentarily save a few bucks?

I always tell tell my clients:

"You get your nails done with GEL instead of regular nail polish, although gel is more expensive. Why? Because ultimately gel lasts longer and its the "smarter" investment."

"You buy the best products for your hair, although there are cheaper versions of shampoo and conditioner. Why? Because you want beautiful, healthy, and vibrant hair.

So why do we not think the same when it comes to our skin? We need to start rethinking our skin health- after all, IT'S THE LARGEST ORGAN OF OUR BODY!!!!!!

Now....Does that mean that OTC skin care products don’t work?

Not necessarily – OTC skin care products are less effective, take longer to work and ultimately are more expensive to use in the long run than pharmaceutical grade products.

Compared to Medical grade...which a little goes a long way and the products last you twice (if not 3 x) as longer!
